New Delhi, July 11 (IANS) Austrian Rocks on Saturday beat Indian Tigers 10-4 to enter the semi-finals of Online Shooting League. It was a must-win clash for both teams in order to qualify for the last-four stage of the tournament.

The Austrian shooters took an early lead and maintained it throughout the match, which lasted for 14 shots. The Indian team, comprising of para shooters, did manage to claim four points but ended up on the losing side.

The other three teams to make it into the semis are Italian Style from Group A and French Frogs and Spanish Chanos from Group B.

Although the French and Spanish teams are already through to the semis after beating Israel Maaborat, they will take on each other in their second Group B match on Sunday.

Shimon Sharif, the organiser of the league, had initially wanted participation from elite Indian shooters but National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) refused to allow any of them to take part in it.

Former India shooter Sharif then thought of fielding a team comprising former Indian shooters but eventually found a backer in PCI with President and Paralympics silver medallist Deepa Malik extending full support.

The inaugural edition has only rifle shooters taking part in the event from July 4-26 where they have been shooting on electronic targets from their homes.

Every team consists of 3 rifle shooters. The format that is being used is "Race to 10" in which shooters of the two teams will take a shot each.

The team with the higher total of 3 shots takes the point and whichever team reaches 10 points first wins that match.
