3/1/1916Habib Rahman, great Architect, was born at Calcutta.
1/9/1997John Major, British Prime Minister, addresses plenary session of the 'Partnership Summit' organised in Calcutta by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
4/24/1858Kunwar Singh, revolutionary of Indian mutiny and freedom fighter, passed away. He fought his last battle near Jagdishpur, Bihar on April 23, 1858 and defeated the Britishers but was deeply wounded. He also organised the national rebels.
1/15/1949General K. N. Kariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. He was the first Indian to reach to this post in Indian Army. In 1956, he was designated as Chief of the Army Staff - General, later Field Marshal. This event is commemoratively observed as Army Day.
5/4/1783Tipu Sultan was enthroned as the ruler of Mysore after the death of Haider Ali in a simple ceremony at Bednur. He continued the Second Mysore War against the English. He defeated many EnglishGenerals like Brithwhite & Col. Bailey. Tipu Sultan signed the treaty at Mangalore on 11th March 1784 A.D. which was known as the Mangalore treaty.

1/28/1902Gandhiji left for Rangoon visit. Stays for a month with Gokhale at Calcutta. Returns to Rajkot and settles down to practise.
4/29/1848Raja Ravi Verma, famous classic, prolific painter and great Indian Artist, was born in Kilimanoor, Kerala.
