7/10/1927Ganga Ram, great social reformer and founder of Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, died in England while functioning as an active member of the Royal Commission on Agriculture. He was against dowry and child marriages and advocated widow re-marriage and also established institutions for vocational education and education for adults.
3/20/1925Marquess Curzon of Kedleston died this morning at age 66 from complications following an operation. Long a kingpin of the Conservative party, Lord Curzon spent 40 years in public life, serving as Viceroy and Governor General of India and, at the end of his career, as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Though he came close to becoming prime minister in 1923, his aristocratic past militated against him in an era which nominated leaders from the House of Commons. He twice wed US women and enjoyed fame as an author of books about politics and his own travels.
3/1/1961The first AN-12B arrived in India. This was added in the force because of the increasing frequency of clashes with Chinese forces on the Sino-lndian Himalayan border and the need that these revealed for yet further increase in airlift capability, together with a requirement for medium helicopters suitable for high-altitude operation, orders were placed in the Soviet Union for eight Antonov An- 12B and 24IL-yushin 11- 14 transport aircraft plus 10 Mi-4 helicopters.
