1/18/1992	Qutubu'd-din Aibak (1206-1210) was crowned at Lahore after the death of Muhammad of Ghuri. He was originally a slave of Turkestan. As he started his career as a slave, the dynasty founded by him in India is known as ""Slave Dynasty"". The construction of Qutabminar was started during his regime. Since he was very generous, the people called him ""Lakh Baksh"".
1/10/1979	Anand Gopal Shauri, litterateur and journalist, passed away.
3/7/1911	Sachchitanand Hiranand Vatsyayan, (Agyeya), modern Hindi literary journalist, freedom fighter and the winner of Jnanpith Award of 1979, was born.
9/3/1997	India and E.U. sign an agreement envisaging a $200 m. E.U. aid for the country's primary health care programme.
6/8/1998	A Disaster Management Cell (DMC) under the direct command of the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command, was set up at the Command Operations Room to liaise with the State Government and initiate necessary actions. All aircrafts were evacuated from IAF bases at Jamnagar, Bhuj and Naliya and flown to pre-determined destinations. In this meticulously planned and smoothly executed drill, more than 60 aircrafts (including helicopters) were flown out.
8/9/1925	Government Treasury from Postal Train was looted near Kakuri Station just about 22 km. away from Lucknow by the members of 'Hindustan Socialist Republican Association'.

12/7/1992	Religious riots swept across India in the wake of the destruction of the ancient Babri Masjid mosque by rampaging Hindu fanatics in the northern Indian town of Ayodhya yesterday. More than 800 people had been killed and hundreds injured as Muslim and Hindu mobs stabbed, shooted and beat each other. The violence had thrown the government into chaos and had spilled into the neighboring states of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The army had been called out to restore order in Bombay, where street battles left 41 dead. The stock market had been closed down and Parliament forced to adjourn. Advani quit as the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha.
12/1/1990	Vijayalaxmi Pandit, first Indian Lady Ambassador and Politician, passed away at the age of 90 years.
2/17/1998	Delhi-Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy super-league match in Chennai was abandoned owing to pitch tampering.
