7/5/1916	Indian Women's University was established at Hingne near Poona by Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve with just four students. After 1920, it was renamed as Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Indian Women's University.
6/28/1972	Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945.
3/23/1947	Lord Mountbatten was sent as a Viceroy to India who was designated to free India.
7/21/1906	W.C. Bonerjee, first President of Indian National Congress, passed away.
1/1/1974	This year was announced to be observed as the ""World Population Year"".
7/3/1898	Gopinath Bhagwan was born at Banamohalla, Srinagar. He is one of the most eminent saints who have graced the sacred land of India. An Ashram at Kharyar, Srinagar is set up by his disciples and devotees to preach his meditation.
10/9/1987	Official Languages Rules, 1976 amended.
1/24/1950	Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected to become the first President of India and 'Jana Gana Mana....' was accepted as the National Anthem of the country.
6/15/1966	U.S. resumes full economic aid to India and Pakistan.
9/11/1958	India and Pakistan announced that most border disputes between the two countries had been settled.
