Dj Prashant :A Cornell University Graduate and ex- Intel Engineer, Prashant bid adieu to engineering in 2009 to follow his true passion for Bollywood. Flash forward four years, he is now celebrated as one of the most exuberant & energetic Bollywood Entertainers of North America, Prashant has moved masses across both coasts of America including in New York City, Washington D.C., L.A., Bay Area, Seattle and Portland.

His high energy performance includes LIVE singing, dancing & seamless DJ'ing to eclectic Indian inspired crossover music that appeals to audience of all ages & nationalities. The charismatic dance lessons he disguises into his performance compel everyone to join in the dance routines transforming a simple dance party into a full fledged Bollywood Musical within minutes.

Q1. When did you start DJing - and what or who were your early passions and influences?

I started in 2009. I had been addicted to dance for several years, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggaeton, West African, Hip-hop etc. Over the years I had been collecting my favorite music from these genres & friends started asking me to play for their "house parties". So that's how it all began, just playing music I love for people I love.

My early influences: personal experience as a social dancer, music broke my social barriers & helped me to connect with people in a beautiful way as well as all the dancing I did in various genres.

Q2. What do you personally consider to be the special moments in your artistic career?

Recently when I was in India, I did an impromptu singing performance for a cousins wedding, all my family members were in attendance & I had the opportunity to entertain them. That was pretty sweet to bring it home.

Q3.How do you usually start preparing for a event ?

I continuously work on listening to & sorting through new music, choreography of new & old songs that move me. However as a DJ, I show up as a clear canvas for shows, I have an idea of the dance I'm going to teach.

For me DJ'ing is a combined effort, any preconceived idea is a potential hindrance on connecting with the vibe of the people who are there, so I don't make any pre/determined playlist. It's all in the moment & for the moment.

Q4.How did you stumble upon the idea of teaching Bollywood moves to club goers ?

It's a funny story, one time I was out dancing, all of a sudden several big Punjabi guys cornered & surrounded me. I thought it was going to be trouble but turned out they really liked how I danced & wanted to learn from me. I had been teaching dance to kids but not adults, I reluctantly said yes. All summer long, they showed up every Sunday from Salem (60 miles away) to learn dance. That's how it all began.

Q5.Can you please share a funniest thing that happened at a concert?

This happens often, I would be playing a song & someone will come up & request that same exact song. Or I'm playing a Punjabi song & people come & request Punjabi music. I'm thoroughly confused what's the disconnect but I believe it's something to do with Alcohol, one of us is drunk. ;)

Q6. You have a huge fan following, what is your message to them?

My singing, music & dancing is my message. Keep celebrating & sharing music-dance wherever you are.
